Considered by some (press and fans) as the most extraordinary of all group B, its entry into the world revolutionized the rallies of the time for its mechanical innovation and led to other brands to rethink their sports projects and the design of its models in some cases, copied the mechanical structure of 205.1 Peugeot addition, several private pilots competed in tests of the world championship of Europe and national championships.
T16 205 to homologate the brand built a production version under the same name but the resemblance of this, with conventional Peugeot 205 was minimal. The T16 was built on a tubular chassis with four-wheel drive and a motor located in the central part reaching 500 hp. Aesthetically it is also very different, has a large rear spoiler, fender skirts and own rally vehicles of the time. Peugeot developed two versions, a first called Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 and an evolution that began in 1985 called Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Evo 2.
In 2013 Peugeot developed a version for competition Peugeot 208 in category R5 and called Peugeot 208 T16 in honor of the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16.3 features all-wheel drive 1.6 turbo engine flange 32mm and sequential gearbox five-speed.
Group B
Group B was a series of auto racing regulations established by the FIA, (then FISA) for adaptation in rally competitions. They were established in 1982 in place of Group 4 and were banned in 1986, after a series of fatal accidents being replaced by the Group A. The cars of group B, they were very powerful, lightweight and introduced important technical innovations to competition, as wheel drive and turbocharged engines that enhanced power to new limits. Among the most representative are: the Audi Quattro, Lancia 037, the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 and the Lancia Delta S4, between others.
The idea of ??the FIA ??to create the B group was back to the concept of the Lancia Stratos, the first car designed exclusively for rally, encourage brands to enter the World Rally Championship to create racing cars in the style of Renault 5 Turbo but to remind the street. What if it was overlooked was the security section, virtually regulation regarding the same was nonexistent: very low minimum weights were established, no limits are set in terms of power and the use of tubular chassis and bodies are allowed fiber with crystals plástico.2 This very permissive regulation accompanied with turbo engine and lightweight materials took the step to the birth of a generation of cars as fascinating as dangerous. Just three years after its appearance were banned forever. Although currently the World Rally Car get lower the times of the group B, for fans who lived that time, it considered the golden age, the rallies will never be as entonces. +++++
